Pocket is gone. Its replacements want your reading list.

Mozilla shut Pocket down in 2025. The apps that replaced it — Readwise Reader, Raindrop, Instapaper — are good, and they all keep your saved articles on their servers. That's a trade you don't actually have to make.

What it does

✂️

Clip a snippet

Select any text, right-click, save. It lands in your Clips panel instantly — searchable, copyable, deletable.

📄

Save a whole page

Right-click → Save page for later. The readable article is extracted and stored with a snapshot, so it opens even offline.

📖

Reader view

A clean, distraction-free layout with light and dark themes, a reading-progress bar, and print / Save as PDF.

🔍

Full-text search

Find any word inside everything you've saved — not just the titles. Answers the "where did I read that?" question.

📥

Import your library

Bring your reading list with you — Pocket, Instapaper, Readwise and browser bookmark exports import straight in. Clips come back from CSV or JSON too.

📤

Export whenever

Clips as CSV, Excel or JSON. Pages as a single ZIP archive. Your data is yours to take out, in one click.

⌨️

Built for reading

Reading-time estimates, duplicate detection, keyboard shortcuts, a resizable panel, and a storage meter that shows what you're using.

Three clicks. No sign-up.

  1. 1

    Install

Add it from the Chrome Web Store. No account, no email, no onboarding.

  2. 2

    Save something

Right-click selected text to clip it, or right-click the page to save it for later.

  3. 3

    Read it whenever

Open the panel or the library. Works with the network off — the article is already on your disk.

The difference is what it can't do

Every other read-later app is a service. You send it your articles, and it keeps them. Local Clipper has no server to send them to.

Where your data lives

Clips, settings and themes in Chrome's own local storage. Article bodies and page snapshots in IndexedDB on your machine. There is no cloud copy, because there is no cloud.

The only network request

One: validating your Pro licence key against Lemon Squeezy. That's it. No analytics, no telemetry, no account, no sync, no phoning home.

What happens if you uninstall

Your data goes with the extension, because it never left. Export first if you want to keep it — CSV, Excel, JSON, or a ZIP of your saved pages.

No cross-device sync — on purpose

Syncing means a server. If you want your library on another machine, export and import it. Slower, and the only version of this that stays private.

Free to use. One payment to unlock everything.

Straight answers

Can you see what I save?

No. There is no server, no account and no analytics. Your clips and articles are written to your own browser's storage and never transmitted. The only outbound request the extension makes is validating a Pro licence key.

Is this a Pocket replacement?

It covers the same ground — save a link now, read it properly later — with a different trade: no cloud, so no cross-device sync, but also no third party holding your reading list.

Can I import my old Pocket / Instapaper / Raindrop export?

Yes. Open the Pages tab → Actions → Import and pick your export file. It reads Pocket's HTML export, Instapaper and Readwise CSVs, browser bookmark files, and Local Clipper's own JSON.

Imported entries are links, not offline copies — those exports don't contain article text. Open one and use Save page for later to archive it properly. Imported links don't count against your free offline-page allowance.

Does it sync between my computers?

No, and that's deliberate. Sync requires a server. Export from one machine and import on the other if you need it.

What happens to my saved pages if I uninstall?

They're removed with the extension, because they only ever lived on your device. Export a ZIP first if you want to keep them.

Do I need an account or an email address?

No. Install it and start saving. A Pro licence key is the only thing that identifies you, and only to the payment provider.

Is it open source?

Yes — the source is public on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 licence.

Save the next thing you read.

It takes a click, and it stays on your machine.
